Youth Provision Goes from Strength to Strength

Youth Provision Goes from Strength to Strength

Shrewsbury Town Council’s youth services recently relaunched its Wednesday pre-juniors youth groups at the Grange Centre on Mount Pleasant Road.

Working with local schools to promote the youth groups, the Town Council’s youth and community manager has been delighted that the sessions have proved so popular some changes have had to be made to the timings of the organised activities.

Andy Hall, youth and community manager at the Town Council, said: “We are seeing so many young people coming along to our youth groups, with numbers rocketing to over 75 young people a night. With these sorts of numbers attending, we need to ensure that our young people get the best possible experience from our youth provision.

“As a result, we have amended the timings of the Years 4 & 5 to start at 6pm and finish at 7pm, whilst the Year 6 session now starts at 7.15pm and ends at 8.15pm.

“All activities will remain the same, although if there are any questions regarding these changes, please get in touch for more information.”

Young Shrewsbury will also be taking part in the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) scheme from Shropshire Council. Andy Hall added: “Shrewsbury Town Council’s Young Shrewsbury team, supported by external sports workers, will help to deliver multi activities in an informal learning setting at the Grange Community Centre in Harlescott.

“We will also provide nutritious hot and cold meals prepared in-house which will meet school food standards.

“Young people will be encouraged to participate in the preparation of nutritious meals working to a designated budget and they will also have the opportunity to join us working in the vegetable/orchard garden.

“In addition, football coaching sessions will be delivered from our outdoor recreation ground at Monkmoor with youth and sports workers.”

Details of all the HAF sessions in and around the Shrewsbury area, and how to book your child on the sessions, can be found on the HAF website at: https://haf.shropshire.gov.uk/
