With its commanding clock tower, Shrewsbury Market Hall has been a landmark between Shoplatch and Claremont Street since 1965. Home to more than 50 independent traders, it offers everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, poultry and fish, to delicatessen treats, books, antiques, collectables, and contemporary arts and crafts.

In 2025, the Market Hall was crowned Britain’s Favourite Market for the third year running – and for a record-breaking fourth time overall – in the prestigious National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) awards. The title is decided by a nationwide public vote and a panel of industry experts, with more than 40,000 votes cast this year.

NABMA’s chief executive, David Preston, praised Shrewsbury Market Hall as “a vibrant and eclectic fusion of the handcrafted and the hard to find” and noted it is “not frightened of change and continually seeks to evolve”.

Jointly run by Shrewsbury Town Council – which manages the canopied section – and Shropshire Council – which oversees the periphery stalls – the market thrives thanks to close collaboration between both authorities. Together, they ensure this award-winning destination remains a bustling and evolving hub for residents and visitors alike.
