Shrewsbury Town Council workers who saved a baby girl from drowning when her pram was blown into the fast-flowing waters of the River Severn have been nominated for a Pride of Shropshire award.
James Williams and Andy Hill leapt into the freezing water in February when the six-month old girl’s pram was blown away from her grandmother and into the ice-cold water. Colleague Mickey Bramall then threw in a life buoy before giving the youngster first aid.
The trio have been selected as finalists in the Outstanding Bravery category in this year’s Pride of Shropshire campaign, promoted by the Shropshire Star and voted for by members of the public.
The overall winners will be announced at a ceremony being held at Shrewsbury Town Football Club on October 19.
Mr Williams said he was delighted with the news.
“It is such an honour to even be nominated for this award, let alone be selected as finalists. We are all really grateful for the support we have received from everyone, it is truly humbling.”
