Still Time to Grab Your Blooming Business Baskets

Shops and businesses in Shrewsbury are being reminded that they can still help play a part in ensuring the town’s reputation as “the Town of Flowers” is maintained by displaying hanging baskets prepared by Shrewsbury Town Council.

At this time of year, the workforce at the Town Council’s Weeping Cross greenhouse are nurturing tens of thousands of flowers to make the town’s streets and open spaces a floral masterpiece.

Hanging baskets are available from the Town Council for £50.00 each (inc. VAT) which includes delivery, maintenance and regular watering throughout the summer and then disposal at the end of the season.

Delivery of baskets will take place during the first two weeks of June and collection at the end of the season will be at the end of September.

Orders must be placed by June 1.

Last year, a record breaking 325 baskets were purchased by a variety of shops and businesses within the town centre, all of which helped the town win Gold in the 2017 Heart of England in Bloom campaign.

Councillor Keith Roberts, chairman of the Shrewsbury in Bloom Committee, said: “To those who have not already completed their application, I would encourage any business in the town to get in touch with either the Town Council or Shrewsbury BID to ensure that they purchase their hanging baskets for this summer.

“The town is entered in both the Heart of England in Bloom and the national Britain in Bloom competitions and the hanging baskets are one aspect of the floral features that help to ensure the town looks good not only for judging in July, but also for our residents and visitors alike. The Town Council’s hanging baskets are a great way of enhancing the town and really help to make a difference to the visual appeal of the town.  They engender a sense of pride, and encourage visitors to return to Shrewsbury time and time again.”

“Shrewsbury in Bloom is a partnership between residents, businesses and the commercial sector, the Town Council and various other stakeholders. It is a great opportunity to support our Town of Flowers image – one of our greatest assets.”

Shrewsbury BID members will be able to order their hanging baskets at a sponsored cost of £40.00 via their website at shrewsbury.bid/2018/05/order-your-hanging-basket-through-shrewsbury-bid/

For other companies within Shrewsbury who would like to place an order or require further information, please contact Gary Farmer on 01743 257651 or email enquiries@shrewsburytowncouncil.gov.uk.

Please note that all hanging baskets will be weight tested for safety and will require a bracket for installation, which will need to be sourced and installed independently.
