A Shropshire ‘mumpreneur’ is on the rise after launching cookery sessions for youngsters in Shrewsbury Market Hall.
Mother-of-three Katie Wellington opened Katie’s Kitchen for Kids in October and is already cooking up a storm with parents who can relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of cake while their children create culinary masterpieces in a safe environment.
Katie is NNEB trained, CRB checked and fully insured with a level five hygiene certification.
The former nursery nurse turned baker set up her first business, Chef’s Parties, last year and quickly spotted a gap in the market for activities for pre-school children.
Within two months Katie’s Kid’s Kitchen was born and the business now offers cookery classes for three to five-year-olds, alongside themed tea parties and Holiday Cookery from children aged five to 15-years-old for two hour sessions.
Katie, who lives near Shrewsbury said: “Cooking with my own children is something I really enjoy and it’s been fantastic to turn a hobby and pastime into a successful business. I realised there was a niche in the market for activities for pre-school children where they could discover the joy of baking while giving parents a well-earned couple of hours off. It was a natural move to open up at Shrewsbury Market, which seems like a really fun and exciting environment to work in, it has a lovely family atmosphere.”
“I have been thrilled with the level of interest the Kitchen has received and I am teaching weekly on average 75 children including after school cookery clubs at two local schools. It is a truly lovely to have the opportunity to cook with so many enthusiastic and fun children. I will be promoting half term and Saturday Kids Kitchen very soon. I am very excited about next year and very lucky to be doing a job I really love.”
Pre school classes run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.45am -10.45am and 11.15am-12.15pm. The cost is £3.50 per session paid in advance as a four -week booking. Holiday Club costs £10 per two hour session. Parties are £10 per head and cakes, party bags and chocolate fountain are also available.
