Shrewsbury Town FC Receive Mayor’s Award

The Mayor of Shrewsbury has presented the town’s football club with a special award in recognition of the team’s recent promotion to League One.

Councillor Tony Durnell congratulated the club at last night’s Mayor’s Awards, which were held at the Guildhall.

The team secured automatic promotion from League Two with a 1-0 win at home to Dagenham and Redbridge on April 28.

Shrewsbury Town FC now face the likes of Portsmouth, Coventry City and Preston North End next season.

Councillor Durnell praised the team, and club chairman Roland Wycherley and manager Graham Turner, for their hard work and determination.

He said: “On behalf of the residents and businesses of Shrewsbury I would like to congratulate Shrewsbury Town for their hard work in reaching League One. Special thanks should go to Roland Wycherley whose continued faith in the club has come good, and Graham Turner who has seen Shrewsbury triumph for the second time as manager. The team’s promotion is fantastic news for the town and county and is a superb example of team effort by all.”
