Shrewsbury Town Council’s Coronavirus Battle Fund

As Coronavirus is set to impact on our daily lives, Members of the Town Council have been extremely heartened by the grassroots support in local communities. Many are co-ordinating volunteers to help those most vulnerable in our society to get through the weeks ahead.

To support community groups and organisations, the Town Council has set aside £20,000 to provide one-off grants of £500. This grant pot comes with few conditions and funds will be released within 48 hours of the application form being released.

Helen Ball, Town Clerk for Shrewsbury Town Council, outlined the process of seeking funding.  “We want to make this as simple as possible because we do not want community groups to be spending time filling in forms when they could be helping our residents.  There is a simple form to complete, details of which are on our website. Myself and our Head of Resources have committed to turning around these applications within hours of receipt.”

Councillor Alan Mosley, Leader of the Town Council, praised the work of local community groups.  He added: “All across the town, local support groups are popping up wanting to help their local community and some of our established community organisations are really preparing for the challenge.

“Our Battle Fund is designed to help them.  It can be used for anything from paying for leaflets to be printed to paying for fuel so people can transport goods to the vulnerable to even paying for tea and coffee for volunteers.”

Details of the Shrewsbury Town Council Coronavirus Battle Fund can be found on their website at www.shrewsburytowncouncil.gov.uk/grants or contact your local Town Councillor for details.
