Shrewsbury schools have been battling it out to be crowned horticultural masters in the Annual Town of Flowers school garden competition.
The contest, run by Shrewsbury in Bloom, has three categories; Unusual Floral Containers, which requires school children to plant flowers, vegetables or fruits in weird and wacky containers such as old bath tubs, tin cans and clothing; Wildlife Garden and the Young Gardener Award.
The results of the Unusual Floral Containers were;
Greenfields Primary School – 1st
Oxon Primary School – 2nd
Belvidere Primary School – 3rd
The results of the for the Wildlife Garden were;
Crowmoor Primary School – 1st
Belvidere Primary School – 2nd
Greenfields Primary School – 3rd
The winners of the Young Gardener Award were;
Tilly Thomas-Neath from Greenfields Primary School – Winner
Tom Watkins from Belvidere Primary School – Highly Commended
Miles Dooley from Greenfields Primary School – Highly Commended
Isabelle Francis from Oxon Primary School – Highly Commended
Edward Owen from Crowmoor Primary School – Highly Commended
Jackie Brennand, chairman of Shrewsbury in Bloom said: “The judges would like to thank the children and staff for the welcome they received at all the schools. We were very impressed with all the entries and the great enthusiasm shown by the many children involved in the creation of some excellent gardens and magnificent, imaginative unusual floral containers.
“Trophies, shields, prizes and certificates will be presented by the Mayor of Shrewsbury at the annual Town of Flowers event in October.”
