Shrewsbury’s Grand Angling Final

Following hot on the heels of the Shrewsbury River Classic Festival 2018 earlier this month, the second major angling tournament to be held in Shrewsbury takes place this weekend [NOV 3 & 4].

The Angling Trust Riverfest Grand Final 2018 will be held along the banks of the River Severn in both the Quarry and at the County Ground in Frankwell.  The anglers will start setting up their equipment from around 8.30am, with the competition taking place between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

Playing host to seventy-two of the country’s best anglers, the competitors will have already competed in twenty-six independent competitions in various locations throughout the UK.  Only three anglers from each of the qualifying competitions have made it through to the Final.

The Riverfest Champion will take home a cash prize of £15,000, in what is billed as the Best River Final in the UK.

Mike Cox, outdoor recreation and asset manager for Shrewsbury Town Council, said: “With such a high-profile angling tournament here in Shrewsbury, we have been able to attract the “Premier League” of anglers from across the country.  We have an excellent working partnership between the Town Council, the Environment Agency and local fishing groups and with good fish stocks here in Shrewsbury, we’re looking forward to some great fishing over the weekend.”

Spectators are welcome to come along and watch the anglers compete in the competition, although anyone wishing to see the anglers in action will need to ensure that there is enough space to safeguard their equipment.
