Shrewsbury Residents Invited to Attend Annual Town Meeting

Shrewsbury residents are invited to attend this year’s Annual Town Meeting, which will be held next week.

The event takes place in the University Centre Lecture Theatre in the Guildhall, Frankwell Quay on Monday [MAY 14] from 7pm and is open to residents who live within the Council’s 17 wards.

The session provides an opportunity to raise questions on matters affecting the town of Shrewsbury and learn of the work undertaken by councillors over the last twelve months.

There will also be presentations from key partners in the town including Shrewsbury BID highlighting the development of the Big Town Masterplan in conjunction with both Shropshire Council and the Town Council.  There will also be updates from West Mercia Police on their work in the town.

The meeting will also incorporate the Shrewsbury-wide Local Joint Committee meeting with a presentation on the work undertaken by the Community Enablement Officers.

There will be plenty of opportunities for members of the public to ask questions, make contributions and raise any other matters not on the agenda.

Councillor Alan Mosley, leader of the Council, said: “I am proud of the Town Council and its partners and the success stories we have witnessed over the last twelve months, despite continuing financial pressures.  Whilst we have been forthright on a number of local issues, including parking charges, the Quarry Swimming Pool and how the changes in Council Tax Benefit will affect our residents, we also need to look to the future.  We feel that it is important to have a long-term plan for our town to show the improvements we would expect to see from any future development.

“This meeting will give our residents a chance to have their say and we would encourage people to join us with a view to making their voices heard.  We always welcome people’s views on how we can best protect and promote the vital local services to maintain the high standards we have all come to expect.”
