Shrewsbury Market Trader Gives Paws for Thought for Charity

A Shrewsbury market trader has collected more than £125 for a local animal charity.

Brian Nock, who runs The Pet Stall at Shrewsbury Market Hall, raised the funds over the last 12 months by accumulating spare change donated by his customers.

The money has been donated to Grinshill Animal Rescue, a Shrewsbury based rehoming centre for cats and dogs.

This is the third time Brian has been able to donate funds to the charity, which he selected due to the link between his pet stall business and the family run rescue centre.

Brian said: “We started collecting spare change a few years ago and it’s surprising how quickly it adds up. A lot of our customers will say ‘keep the change’ when it’s an odd penny or two here and there so we started saving and chose Grinshill as the beneficiary due to the animal link. It’s great to be able to give something back and we will continue to collect for the charity, thanks to the generosity of our customers.”

Grinshill Animal Rescue is a small, family run rescue centre located eight miles north of Shrewsbury Town Centre. The charity takes in stray and abused animals and relies upon members of the public to help raise funds and volunteer time to make sure all their animals have the individual love and attention they deserve.

Jenny Martinez, who started rescuing animals more than 30 years ago said: “Grinshill rescue is completely self-funded and we rely on fundraising events and donations from the public to be able to help us continue to care for unwanted cats and dogs. We are extremely grateful to Brian and the customers of The Pet Stall for their donations and we truly appreciate their support.”

The Pet Stall is located in the canopied section of Shrewsbury Market Hall and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9am until 4pm.
