Shoppers May Take Home More Than Bear Neccessities at Market Hall

Shoppers visiting Shrewsbury’s indoor Market Hall this week may come home with more than just the bear necessities if they enter a festive competition to raise funds for charity.

The Market Hall, in conjunction with Shrewsbury Town Council which runs the canopied section of the shopping venue, is asking members of the public to make a £1 donation to this year’s chosen Mayoral charity, the Severn Hospice, in exchange for a chance to guess the name of the teddy bear.

The person who guesses the name correctly will win the giant bear which would make a perfect Christmas gift for any child.

Entry forms are available in the Market Hall.

The name of the bear will be announced on December 22 during the Market Hall’s late night Christmas shopping evening. There will also be festive music, mulled wine and mince pies on the night, as well as the judging of the best decorated section of the market’s giant Christmas cake by Edd Kimber, star of BBC 2’s The Great British Bake Off, at 7pm.

Helen Ball, Town Clerk said: “We hope our name the bear competition will bring a bit of festive cheer to shoppers while also raising essential funds for this year’s Mayoral charity, the Severn Hospice. One lucky winner will also get to take the bear home in time for Christmas so someone may receive an extra gift under the tree!”
