Rain Fails to Dampen Christmas Cracker Event

Organisers have hailed the third annual Christmas Cracker event a success – despite the best efforts of the typical British weather.

There were several highlights during the evening including the return of the magical lantern parade, as well as dance displays and performances from Shrewsbury College Performing Arts Choir, FS Fusion and Vorsprung Durch Oompah Band.

Santa was also in his sleigh in the Square and stars from Theatre Severn’s pantomime spectacular, Sleeping Beauty, entertained members of the public who braved the biting wind and persistent rain showers.

The Christmas lights were met with sounds of cheers and rapturous applause when Shrewsbury’s Mayor, Councillor Jon Tandy, and Town Crier, Martin Wood, officially switched them on at 6.30pm.

Helen Ball, Town Clerk said: “We were delighted to be adding to Shrewsbury’s Christmas sparkle by providing the town’s lighting display once again this year. We worked hard with our partner agencies to provide an evening of fun-filled entertainment for all the family and the event certainly kick-started the festive season with a bang – despite the typical British weather!”
