Quarry Play Area Reopened

Part of the Quarry play area in Shrewsbury, which was forced to close due to health and safety reasons, has reopened today. [JUNE 15]

The infant section of the playground was closed on June 1 after a routine check of the site revealed signs of a collapsed drain running from the Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre, underneath the site.

The junior section of the play area was unaffected.

Two metres of pipe has now been replaced and re-connected and the hole filled and turf reinstated.

Mark Harris, technical assistant for Shrewsbury Town Council said: “We have worked closely with our partners at Shropshire Council to rectify the problem as soon as possible and we are pleased to be re-opening the play area in time for the weekend. We would just ask users to exercise a little caution over the next few days as the area may be a little muddy, especially with the heavy rainfall predicted for the weekend.”

Councillor Steve Charmley, Cabinet member for active and healthy lifestyles for Shropshire Council, which runs which runs the Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre said: “We’ve worked closely with Shrewsbury Town Council to ensure that the essential repairs to the drain were completed as quickly as possible. Therefore, it’s great to hear that the play area has been reopened in time for the weekend.’
