Cyclists in Shrewsbury are being invited to take part in a charity bike ride, organised by the town’s Mayor.
Councillor Keith Roberts is hoping to raise £3,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Hope House, which are the Mayor’s nominated charities for this year, by riding from Shrewsbury to his home town of Abergavenny.
The cycle ride takes place on September 22, stopping overnight on route, arriving in Abergavenny the following afternoon.
A civic reception, hosted by the Mayor of Abergavenny, will be held on arrival in the town.
To take part participants are required to pay a registration fee of £35, which covers all administration costs, food and transport home, and raise at least £250 in sponsorship.
Councillor Roberts said: “Last year I completed a sponsored cycle ride from London to Brussels, raising more than £2,000 for charity, and while doing so I thought it would be a good idea to organise something similar for my mayoral year. I decided we should ride to Abergavenny as that is where I grew up and where my family still live. It is also a sensible distance for the ride to enable cyclists of all abilities to take part. I chose my two charities as I have a close relative living with Cystic Fibrosis and, with Hope House, I wanted to support a local cause.”
