Santa Sleigh Swap

Santa will be swapping his traditional sleigh for a less conventional means of transport this weekend.

The man in red will be arriving at the Square in Shrewsbury via a fire engine on Saturday [DEC 3], organised by former Mayor, Councillor Kath Owen.

Father Christmas will be arriving in the Square at approximately 12pm after travelling along Abbey Foregate and up Wyle Cop to the Square on a fire engine provided by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Children can talk to Santa, who will be handing out sweets to the crowds, andyerwhatyerwhat drop ayeayeoff their Christmas letters.

Councillor Owen, who arranged a flying visit by Father Christmas last year when he was dropped into the Quarry by helicopter said: “Santa will be visiting Shrewsbury early to collect Christmas letters from the children and he will be giving his reindeer a rest and travelling by fire engine. To me this is just magic because the children are just in awe of seeing Father Christmas and it is only for a few short years that this happens so let us all enjoy their fun while they can.”

Santa will also be returning to Shrewsbury on December 10 and 14 when he stops by the elves workshop in Shrewsbury Market Hall.

Youngsters can visit Father Christmas in his grotto from 10am until 4pm on December 10 and again on December14 from 4pm until 8pm and will receive an extra special handmade gift, courtesy of Compost Kids.

A fee of £2 per child is payable upon entry with all proceeds going to Hope House.
