Mayor to Turn Out for Remembrance Service

Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor of Shrewsbury, and other civic dignitaries, at a Remembrance Sunday service this weekend.

The service will be held at St Chad’s Church on Sunday [NOV11] at 9.45am.

A civic procession will leave the castle at 9.15am following the route of Castle Gates, Castle Street, Pride Hill, Mardol Head and St John’s Hill to St. Chad’s Church.

The Mayor, and other civic dignitaries, will walk along with units of HM Forces and Service organisations to music from the Band of the Mercian Regiment.

There will also be a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in the Quarry at 11am. Buglers will sound Last Post, which will be followed by two minutes silence.

A March past and salute will follow immediately after the wreath laying ceremony on St. Chad’s Terrace.

Music accompanying the march past will be performed by the Band of the Mercian Regiment.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Keith Roberts said: “I would like to encourage members of the public to join me in marking the day the guns fell silent in 1918 and to express their gratitude to all those who gave their lives in two World Wars and the conflicts which have followed. Everyone is welcome to attend.”
