Mayor to Officially Open New Council Depot

Shrewsbury Town Council’s new operational depot will be officially opened by the Mayor later this week.

Staff moved into the operational base at the STC Weeping Cross Depot, situated next to the Council’s existing greenhouse, in March.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Beverley Baker, will now officially open the building this Friday [13 May] as part of an open day for town councillors who will be given a guided tour of the facilities.

The 1,700 sq m depot will help streamline the Council’s operations and provide a long-term base from which to manage its grounds maintenance and horticultural work.

The facility will house operational staff, store equipment and provide a space for vehicle and equipment maintenance. It will also co-ordinate Shrewsbury in Bloom activities next to the existing greenhouse.

Helen Ball, Town Clerk said: “The new STC Weeping Cross Centre will streamline the Council’s operations, providing a practical and functional base which will help us manage all of our land. The development of this site bares testimony to the strong grounds maintenance presence we have within the town, and further afield. It is testament to our continued commitment to deliver high standards, even during these times of austerity.”
