Mayor Officially Launches Refurbished Tennis Courts

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Miles Kenny, has officially launched three refurbished tennis courts at Monkmoor Recreation Centre.

The Mayor was joined by Bob Kerr, Vice-Chairman of Tennis Shropshire, Nigel Hunter, Programmes Manager from inspire2coach, Mike Cox, Outdoor Recreation & Asset Manager from Shrewsbury Town Council, as well as the Mayoress, Mrs Aurora Kenny, at the site on Wednesday. [30 SEP]

The three tennis courts were recently refurbished with partnership funding from Shrewsbury Town Council and the Lawn Tennis Association.

The Town Council will be working closely with both Tennis Shropshire and inspire2coach to increase usage at Monkmoor by arranging coaching sessions and other activities, with a long term view to establishing a club at the site.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Miles Kenny said: “The refurbished tennis courts look so good, enough to tempt anyone to a game of tennis. It’s a big thanks to the Lawn Tennis Association for this and I look forward to seeing Shrewsbury tennis players at Wimbledon in the near future.”

Bob Kerr, vice-chairman of Tennis Shropshire added: “The courts used to be covered in moss and the lines were not really discernible, but now it’s great. It’s a facility that’s up and ready to go and the long-term plan is to get as many people from the local community as we can to be involved.”
