Market Hall Welcomes Coach Drivers

Coach drivers who visit Shrewsbury are being offered some rest and relaxation at the town’s Market Hall.

Drivers can claim a free meal (up to the value of £3) at Market Buffet café (not valid on Sundays, Mondays or Thursdays) and also have access to clean public toilets (Monday to Saturday).

To claim their free meal drivers should present a valid form of identification at the Market Buffet which shows their name and company they work for.

Kate Gittins, site facilities manager at the market said: “We realise how important the coaching industry is to the town and we want to do all we can to make the experience as easy and pleasurable as possible for drivers so they return here time and time again. We are doing our best to make Shrewsbury a coach friendly town by providing facilities drivers need to ensure they get some respite during their day.”

As well as the free meal initiative two further improvements for coaches have been implemented by Destination Shrewsbury, a public private partnership with the aim of developing and promoting the visitor economy of Shrewsbury.

Partners include Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury Town Council, Shrewsbury Tourism Association, Shop in the Loop and Shrewsbury Business Chamber.

Free coach parking is now also available in the coach bays at either Frankwell or Abbey Foregate Car & Coach Parks.

There is also a new set down/collection point on Bellstone. This is in addition to the established set down point on St Chad’s Terrace opposite the Quarry (riverside park). T

he new Bellstone set down is much closer, and gives easier access on foot, to the town centre shops and is located opposite the Market Hall.

The measures are part of Destination Shrewsbury’s plans to encourage more groups to stop off in Shrewsbury and increase visitor spending.
