Love Shines a Light at Market Hall

Love will shine a light at Shrewsbury Market Hall today [TUES] as part of a special Valentine’s Day celebration.

Digital media artist, Andy McKeown, will be projecting a series of love-themed animations onto the Market Hall clocktower from 6pm until 11pm this evening.

The visual attraction has been organised to coincide with Valentine’s Day and also marks the completion of the refurbishment of the market clocktower.

Shrewsbury-based Andy McKeown is internationally renowned for his light artistry. His most recent installation was at Nottingham Light Night on February 10 during which he projected images onto the Council House building, one of the biggest buildings he has wrapped so far, standing at 37 metres by 22 metres.

Locally, some of his previous works have included lightworks onto The Quarry Bandstand, Shrewsbury’s Flaxmill, Theatre Severn and the Wakeman School.

Andy McKeown said: The Market Hall provided the location for my first illuminations in Shrewsbury back in 2003 with Christmas kaleidoscopia so it’s great to have the opportunity to light another part of the building. The Clock Tower is quite a challenge and very much an initial experiment.

Kate Gittins, site facilities manager at the market added: “We are delighted Andy has agreed to work with us here at the market. This is something we have wanted to do for a number of years and the refurbishment of the clocktower, and the significance of the date, has provided a perfect opportunity to fulfil our ambition.”
