Young people across the central area of Shropshire have just a few days remaining to enter a special poster competition to help celebrate the passing of the Olympic Torch through Shrewsbury.
Shrewsbury Town Council is inviting school children of all ages to design a poster based on the theme ‘what you love about Shrewsbury.’
The posters will be used to line the torch route when it passes through the town on May 30.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will also choose the top 30 posters which will feature in a special Countdown to the Olympics throughout the month of May.
An overall winner will then be selected and its creator/s will receive a VIP invitation to stand alongside the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff and Mayor of Shrewsbury as they welcome the torch.
The winning school will also receive a bumper prize of sports equipment.
The competition is open to all schools in the central area of Shropshire, as well as clubs and associations.
Entries must be received by 5pm on Monday. [April 2]
Helen Ball, Town Clerk for Shrewsbury Town Council said: “Youngsters have just a few days remaining to get their entries in to be in with a chance of winning our fabulous prizes. We hope schools across the central area of Shropshire will consider bringing their students out to Shrewsbury so they can line the streets to experience this once in a lifetime event.”
All posters must use the template provided and be printed at A3 size.
No fixings or attachments should be included as posters will be laminated.
Completed entries should be submitted to: Shrewsbury Town Council, Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HR.
Winners will be considered in different age categories.
