A decorative heron, made entirely from steel, is now standing proud in Shrewsbury’s Quarry.
The 8ft sculpture was commissioned by the town’s In Bloom committee in a bid to be crowned the best in the region in the 2011 Heart of England competition.
The artwork, which cost £850, has been installed on a special plinth in the Dingle gardens.
It was created by Marche Studios, based in Ford, who specialise in art and sculpture crafted from steel.
Gary Farmer, Operations Manager at Shrewsbury Town Council said: “The heron was commissioned, and paid for, by the Shrewsbury in Bloom Committee. We try to create something different and new for the judges every year and we also strive to support local businesses which is why we opted for Marche Studios to create the sculpture.”
Councillor Jackie Brennand, chairman of the Bloom Committee added: “We hope the heron in the Dingle will be a talking point for the Bloom judges, visitors and local people alike and that everyone enjoys this stunning piece of artwork that has been so cleverly created by Marche Studios.”
