Have a Ball for Charity

A spectacular autumn charity ball organised by the Mayor of Shrewsbury will see hundreds of revellers dancing to the tune of a top live band.

The brilliant Hot Jazz Biscuits will be topping the bill at Councillor Jon Tandy’s fundraiser, which will be held at the town’s state-of-the-art Buttermarket venue on October 5 in aid of his chosen charity, Severn Hospice.

The soulful seven-piece band’s repertoire ranges from jazz and swing, through Motown to disco and pop, meaning those attending are guaranteed to have a good night dancing to a selection of classic songs.

“I’m delighted to have secured The Hot Jazz Biscuits to play at the Mayor’s Ball. They are a wonderful band and it promises to be a night to remember,” said Councillor Tandy.

“The more people who can attend, the more money we can raise for Severn Hospice, which is an incredible charity that helps people with terminal illnesses from across Shropshire.

“The Ball is a popular fixture on the Shrewsbury social calendar and I am determined to make this event the biggest and best the town has ever seen. Tickets are on sale now, so I would urge people to snap them up before it’s too late.”

Mike Perry, community fundraising advisor for Severn Hospice, added: “We are delighted to be Councillor Tandy’s chosen charity. The Mayor’s Autumn Ball is going to be a fantastic evening and should not be missed.

“Every year thousands of local people benefit from the specialist care we provide at Severn Hospice either directly or because of the care given to someone they love. It is only thanks to the generosity of others that we are able to help so many people.”

The ball, which is sponsored by leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey, will feature a three-course meal, live music and a disco until 4am.

Tickets costing £35 can be purchased by calling the Mayor’s secretary, Carol Pullen, at Shrewsbury Town Council on 01743 257655.
