Guests Have a Ball at Summer Luncheon

More than 140 people turned out to the Mayor of Shrewsbury’s annual charity luncheon last weekend.

The event took place on the weekend of the 130th annual Shrewsbury Flower Show, in the Members’ Marquee, at the Quarry on August 13.

A total of over £1,500 was raised on the day which included proceeds from ticket sales and a charity raffle.

All the money raised will go to the Mayor’s Charity Fund in aid of The Shropshire Recovery Partnership and the services they provide within Shrewsbury to assist and support individuals and their families affected by alcohol and drug use.

Guests were serenaded by four young local musicians as they enjoyed a wonderful buffet, whilst guest speakers Sally and Henry Maybury spoke movingly about the impact of losing a family member through alcohol misuse.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Jane Mackenzie said: “It was a fantastic day and we were overwhelmed by people’s generosity, and by the number of guests who came. I’d especially like to thank all the local businesses who generously provided prizes for the raffle and the Shropshire Horticultural Society for their hospitality. It was a great atmosphere and we raised a terrific amount for our charity fund.”
