Funding Boost for Shrewsbury Charities

Two local charities have received a funding boost of more than £3,000 each thanks to the former Mayor of Shrewsbury.

Councillor Keith Roberts, whose year in office came to an end in May, presented two cheques, for £3,300 each, to his chosen charities for his mayoral year; Hope House and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The money was raised through a number of fundraising initiatives during Councillor Roberts’ year as Mayor including a charity concert, Flower Show luncheon, sponsored bike ride and several competitions.

Vanessa Thomas from Hope House and Martine Grainger from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust visited the Guildhall on Monday [21 OCT] where they were presented with the cheques for their charities.

Councillor Roberts said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported our charitable fund-raising during the year, helping us raise the great sum of £6,600, with which we are pleased to be able to support the work of two fantastic charities.

One of these, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, is a charity close to our hearts as a family relative is affected by the condition. The other charity, Hope House Children’s Hospice, is a locally founded charity offering fantastic day care and respite services to young people and their families suffering the effects of terminal illnesses.”

Hope House provides specialist nursing care and support to life-limited children, young people and young adults from Shropshire, Cheshire, North and Mid Wales. T

he Cystic Fibrosis Trust aims to make a daily difference to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis, and those who care for them. Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening inherited disease, affecting almost 10,000 people in the UK.
