Final preparations are underway as Shrewsbury Town Council prepares to hold its first ever youth session.
A newly appointed team of youth workers are gearing up to launch the first session at Flaxivity, located at Spring Gardens, on Monday [JAN18].
The session starts at 6.30pm and is aimed at young people in Years 7, 8 and 9.

The youth club at Flaxivity is one of four weekly sessions to be introduced by the Town Council following transfer of the service under commissioning powers from Shropshire Council.
The Town Council has employed one full time and 14 part-time youth workers to deliver youth sessions at Flaxivity on Monday evenings, The Grange Youth Centre on Tuesdays and Sundorne Youth Centre on Wednesdays.
Sessions at New Lodge Youth Centre in Monkmoor will start a week later and will be held on Thursday evenings from January 28.
In addition, the Council is providing funding to Trinity Youth to provide sessions at Meole Brace.
Two teams dedicated to detached youth work have also been established and they will work with young people in their communities throughout the town.
Alan Mosley, Leader of the Council said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this provision so as to protect and promote such valuable services for our young people. We have a very strong team of people with excellent experience of working with youth in a good variety of settings. Once settled in we will go on to review opportunities to provide enhanced support, especially in areas of interest identified by young people themselves.”
Adam Purnell, Youth & Community Development Worker heading up the new youth team added: “Staff teams from each club have met this week to plan a wide range of activities for the coming term which include a variety of sports, arts, games and cooking. Staff are also keen to meet with young people to talk to them about what they want and encourage them to be involved in the development of activities that we offer in the future.”
