Education Pack Hopes to ‘Get Schools Blooming’

A new learning resource to help get Shrewsbury primary schools gardening has been launched by Shrewsbury in Bloom.

‘Get Schools Blooming’ is an online educational resource which aims to encourage and support local primary schools to create and actively use a school garden.

Schools that register for the scheme will receive a free starter pack and can also work towards rewards and certificates by achieving benchmark criteria.

The educational resource has been developed by Shrewsbury in Bloom, which is the body responsible for developing and maintaining Shrewsbury’s floral enhancement, environmental improvements and community projects, in conjunction with Greenfields Primary School which has helped ensure activities support the current curriculum.

Schools must be within the Shrewsbury area to apply and only one registration per primary school is permitted.

Councillor Jackie Brennand, Chairman of Shrewsbury in Bloom Said: “We are delighted to be launching this online learning resource for Shrewsbury primary schools. Taking part in the scheme will provide a sense of community pride and involvement with the ultimate aim to become a Shrewsbury in Bloom accredited school. The pack has been carefully designed, with the help of Greenfields Primary School, so that it fits in with what pupils are already learning and is cross-curricular covering a range of topics including; literacy, numeracy, geography, healthy eating art & design and Citizenship, PSHE and Caring for the Environment.”

Information about the online scheme is currently being sent out to schools. Details can also be found on the Learning Gateway.
