Come Along to see a new Camel at Shrewsbury Market Hall

Finding a camel in Shrewsbury Market Hall amongst the fruit, vegetables, meat and fish is not what visitors would normally expect.

But this is no ordinary camel.  It is a wooden camel from Morocco and is decorated in intricate patterns with henna, which provides a hint of the rather exotic and unusual nature of the items for sale on the new, colourful “Camel & Co” stall.

This bright, new venture has attracted quite a bit of attention from the market’s customers.

The new stall was launched in the summer by seasoned traveller Rona Roberts, who has a background in teaching Textiles, Food Technology and English to international students.

Rona, who personally selects her stock, said: “My aim is to bring well-made, unusual items to the Market Hall.  Most of these have been sourced on my travels to Morocco, Borneo, Thailand, Cambodia, Turkey and France and I want to deliver products that are not usually available in Shrewsbury.”

Camel & Co provides globally-sourced artisan crafts and gifts, which includes a range of soaps from Marseille, colourful tablecloths and bedspreads together with embellished baskets and bags from Morocco, soft cashmere and silk pashminas from Turkey as well as a range of British-made items.

So, if you are looking for a different kind of gift or treat for yourself or a friend, why not pop by and take a look at the colourful Camel & Co stall on the lower floor of Shrewsbury Market Hall.

Rona looks after her camel and the stall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9am until 4pm and both would be delighted to meet you!
