Cast your Vote to Crown Market Trader of the Year

Shoppers at Shrewsbury Market Hall are being asked to cast their vote to crown the Market Trader of the Year.

People visiting the indoor market before April 10 can nominate their favourite trader to win a Mayor of Shrewsbury Award.

The trader with the most votes will be presented with a trophy at the Mayor’s Awards ceremony on April 22.

Last year’s inaugural Market Trader of the Year award went to The Market Buffet. Noreen Maddox, who has run the venue for 47 years, has people return to the café from all over the world to sample her famous cakes.

This year’s award will be especially auspicious as it falls during the market’s Golden anniversary.

Nomination forms are available in the market and completed forms should be deposited in the post boxes provided.

Duplicate entries will not be counted.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Beverley Baker said: “Shrewsbury Market Hall is a vibrant place to visit and this is due to the exciting mix of traders.  Each and every one contributes to the life of the market, so it won’t be an easy decision to pick a favourite. The best advice I can give is to vote for the one you enjoy returning to again and again, who provides good service and adds that little extra something.”

Kate Gittins, facilities manager at the Market Hall added: “The Mayor’s award is a great way to celebrate our traders and all they have to offer. Last year shoppers really got behind the voting and it will be interesting to see how it pans out this time around, especially as the winner will be crowned during our 50th anniversary year.”
