Blooming Record for Hanging Baskets

A record number of hanging baskets will adorn shops and businesses in Shrewsbury this summer, coinciding with the town’s bid to be crowned bloom Champion of Champions – the ultimate Britain in Bloom title.

Shrewsbury Town Council’s commercial basket scheme continues to be blooming successful with figures increasing year on year.

A total of 303 hanging baskets have been sold this year, an increase from 268 in 2013.

All plants are grown from seed or plugs at the Council’s nursery at Weeping Cross Centre. Chairman, Jackie Brennand said: “Hanging baskets are a great way of enhancing the town for both residents and visitors. Baskets are installed at the beginning of the summer and are just one of many initiatives that take place to ensure that the town looks its best.

“Shrewsbury in Bloom is a partnership between residents, the business and commercial sector, the Council and various agencies. The hanging basket scheme is a great opportunity to support our “Town of Flowers” image – one of our greatest assets.”
