Blooming Great Gardens Celebrated

Shrewsbury’s finest horticulturalists have been honoured at the annual Town of Flowers awards.

More than 50 residents and representatives from local businesses and organisations gathered at the Guildhall for the event, hosted by Shrewsbury Town Council, on Monday. [15 OCT]

The town’s green-fingered residents and businesses battled it out in a range of categories including best residential front garden, best container/hanging basket and community achievement.

Entries were judged throughout July by members of the Shrewsbury in Bloom committee.

Prizes were presented by the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Keith Roberts.

Councillor Roberts said: “It is a great pleasure to be able to present these awards to those members of the community who do so much to keep our town blooming. Congratulations to everyone who has received an award.”

Councillor Jackie Brennand, chairman of Shrewsbury in Bloom and one of the judges, added: “I would like to thank everyone who works so hard to keep our town looking beautiful, it’s wonderful to go round and see the effort everyone puts in.

“Next year we are going to need more help than ever before as we go forward to Britain in Bloom and compete against the whole country. Together let’s see if we can repeat our previous success and go forward to the European stages of the contest.”
