Blooming Baskets are a Bargain!

Shops and businesses in Shrewsbury are being asked to help keep the town blooming by displaying hanging baskets prepared by Shrewsbury Town Council.

Every year the dedicated workforce at council’s nursery, at Weeping Cross, spend months preparing thousands of flowers to make the town’s streets and open spaces a floral masterpiece.

Hanging baskets are available for a small cost of £39.95 each (inc. VAT) which includes delivery, maintenance and disposal at the end of the season.

Delivery of baskets will take place during the first two weeks of June and collection at the end of the season will be at the end of September.

Orders must be placed by May 27.

Last year a record breaking 255 baskets were purchased by shops and businesses within the town centre, all of which helped the town win Gold in the 2010 Heart of England in Bloom campaign.

Councillor Jackie Brennand, chairman of the Shrewsbury in Bloom Committee said: “As the summer approaches we are looking to get our town blooming with as many floral displays as possible. Hanging baskets are a great way of enhancing the town for both residents and visitors are just one of the many initiatives taking place to ensure the town looks its best.

“Shrewsbury in Bloom is a partnership between residents, businesses and the commercial sector, the Town Council and various other agencies. It is a great opportunity to support our Town of Flowers image – one of our greatest assets.”
