Address Proposal Shrewsbury Town Council Decision

Car Park
Barker Street
Shrewsbury

Change of use of Pay and Display Car Park to Proposed mixed use development to include 83 Bed Hotel and 3 No. Retail Units with associated Car Parking and Landscaping

Objection
Application Date:
2022-09-02
Application Notes:
Whilst the Town Council had no objection to a development on this site they objected to this application on the grounds of over development as the proposed building is too large for such as small space and the proposed hotel would totally overbear the Grade II* listed Rowleys House, which is viewed as an architectural gem for the town. Members were opposed to the scale of the building. Members also felt that the design of the building lacked imagination and would like to see something more fitting for the town. Members also had strong concerns about the lack of trees on the site and fully supported the comments raised by the Civic Society and Historic England in asking the applicant to work closely with the Conservation Officer on this scheme in finding a proposal that would sit more comfortably within the Conservation Area.
