Address Proposal Shrewsbury Town Council Decision

Meeting Room
17 Betton Street
Shrewsbury
Shropshire

Mixed residential development of seven dwellings following demolition of all buildings on site; alterations to existing vehicular access; formation of driveway and parking areas

Objection
Application Date:
2018-10-11
Application Notes:
The Town Council objects to this application on the following grounds: • Members consider the proposals to be overdevelopment of the site and the positioning of the buildings are too close to the road, bringing forward the building line. Any development on this site should have no greater mass than the current building and be in keeping with the local vernacular; • Due to the significant massing of these properties there is a loss of public amenity to this site particularly for any new residents and a loss of visual amenity to the site; • This development creates a loss of privacy to local residents and given the orientation of the properties a loss of light to their properties; • Members are concerned about the considerable loss of trees to this site to facilitate development; these provide greening to the street; • Traffic in the area has increased considerably in recent years and Members are concerned about the additional cars this development will generate which will be joining the narrow, one-way street; • Members feel that given this is in the heart of the Belle Vue Conservation Area, this development neither preserves nor enhances the area.
