Address Proposal Shrewsbury Town Council Decision

Land North of
Mousecroft Lane
Shrewsbury
Shropshire
SY3 9DX

Outline application for residential development of circa 52 dwellings to include access

Objection
Application Date:
2018-08-10
Application Notes:
The Town Council strongly objects to this application for the following reasons: * This site is not included in the SAMDev Plan as it was considered unsustainable at the time of land allocations. * This is a significant application and does not qualify as a windfall site. Given Shropshire now has a healthy land supply, there is no justification for developing this site ahead of ones already identified in the Local Plan. * The Town Council considers this parcel of landfalls within a green corridor where residents value this location as high amenity value in terms of their recreation and quality of life. * The evolving Big Town Plan is working to create green networks linking sites together. This site is identified as one of those connecting sites and therefore should be preserved as one. * Members feel access off Mousecroft Lane is inappropriate. This country lane was intended to serve a small number of properties and has already been impacted with increased traffic from the new development site nearby. This has turned a quiet lane into a dangerous race track. Another considerable development as proposed would only exacerbate this issue. Members believe that there is a significant cumulative impact from associated developments in this area. * Mousecroft Lane does not have any formal footpaths/cycle paths and given that this lane is an established route for children accessing the two senior schools off Longden Road, any increased vehicular traffic is likely to bring a risk for commuting children.
