  • 10PEDESTRIANISATION TRIAL OF THE TOWN CENTRE - MOTION

    This Council notes:
    1) The sudden ending of the Shrewsbury Town Centre Pedestrianisation Trial (Experimental Traffic Regulation Order) by Shropshire Council on 1st September by two months early.
    2) That despite the close working relationship built up between the Town Council and Shrewsbury BID during the creation Shrewsbury’s Big Town Plan, neither organisation was consulted by Shropshire Council before a decision was taken to end the Pedestrianisation Trial.

    This Council Resolves to:
    1) Send a letter to the Leader and Chief Executive of Shropshire Council protesting about the decision and the lack of proper notice or any consultation along with a demand that the Pedestrianisation Trial be reinstated as soon as possible.

    To consider the report of the Town Clerk in relation to the preparation of a Corporate Plan and Medium Term Financial Plan for the period 2021/22 – 2025/2026.

    This Council resolves to:
    1) Support the proposal for a new Shrewsbury Horseshoe Peripheral Bus Route
    2) Include this in its submission to Shropshire Council’s bus consultation and lobby Shropshire Council for it to be an integral part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP)
    3) Encourage the use of buses by Shrewsbury’s residents by all means possible
