Shrewsbury Town Council is advising residents and visitors that essential tree works are planned for week commencing Monday 26 October 2026 near Victoria Avenue in The Quarry, between Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club and the Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club.
Shropshire Horticultural Society, which owns the land near Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club, has arranged for work to be carried out on a number of yew trees that were originally grown as hedges but have since become significantly overgrown. The trees will be reduced to approximately six feet in height to allow the main trees along Victoria Avenue to grow unimpeded.
For safety reasons, the affected areas will be temporarily closed to the public while the work is carried out on week commencing Monday 26 October.
The footpath between St Julian’s Friars car park, near Greyfriars Bridge, and The Quarry park will remain open, allowing residents and visitors to continue accessing the park.
Access and safety reminder
Residents and visitors are asked to respect temporary closures, keep clear of the tree work areas and follow all on-site safety signage and instructions from contractors. Please take care when passing nearby and allow the work to be completed safely.
