Shrewsbury Town Council Reaffirms Commitment to Tree Safety in the Quarry Park and Dingle

Shrewsbury Town Council wishes to reassure residents and visitors that the safety of everyone using the Quarry Park and Dingle is our top priority.

Following the tragic death of a child in another UK park from a fallen tree, the Council has reviewed its tree inspection and management processes to ensure they remain robust and in line with national best practice.

The Quarry Park’s lime avenues and the Dingle’s large specimen trees are inspected formally every year by qualified arborists. In addition to these formal inspections, our staff undertake regular visual checks throughout the year and additional checks following storms or periods of high winds.

Where issues are identified, we take prompt and appropriate action to make trees safe while preserving the environmental and heritage value of these important landscapes.

Cllr David Vasmer, Chair of the Operations Committee, said:

We know how much residents and visitors value the trees in our parks. We want to reassure everyone that we take our responsibilities very seriously and have robust inspection regimes in place. We are committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for all of our parks and open spaces for everyone to enjoy.

If any member of the public sees a tree or large branch in and any of our sites that they believe may pose a risk, we encourage them to report it to us so we can investigate promptly.
