Shrewsbury Town Council has announced that from Monday 17 November 2025, a letter from the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Alex Wagner, will be delivered to every household within the Shrewsbury parish area.
The Town Council has taken this step to ensure that all are fully informed about the significant changes currently taking place in local government, and how these changes will impact services in Shrewsbury.
In the letter, the Mayor of Shrewsbury outlines how, in response to financial pressures faced by Shropshire Council, a number of local services may be transferred to Shrewsbury Town Council to deliver. This marks a major shift in how key services may be managed, including emphasis on local decision-making and accountability.
Shrewsbury is a town that’s proud of its heritage, its ambitious plans for the future, and how we’re embedded in the daily lives of the people who live and work here,” said Cllr Wagner.
As services transfer from Shropshire Council, we’re stepping up where it matters most — ensuring that vital facilities and community spaces continue to thrive under local management. We’re committed to delivering genuine value for money while protecting what makes Shrewsbury special.”
The Mayor’s message highlights both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. As Shropshire Council faces unprecedented financial pressures, the Town Council is preparing to take on greater responsibility for maintaining key assets in the town.
Cllr Wagner reassures residents that, while the Town Council plans boldly for the future, it remains focused on the day-to-day services that directly impact people’s lives. “Our strength has always been our community,” he added. “By working together, we can ensure Shrewsbury continues to thrive — for today and for generations to come.”

The letter also includes details of a new resident survey designed to gather local views on priorities for service delivery and spending. Residents are invited to take part by visiting

Feedback from the survey will play a vital role in shaping the 2026/2027 budget and future service provision — a period which the Town Council acknowledges will be both challenging and pivotal.
Hard copies of the survey are also available from the Town Council offices at Livesey House, 7 St John’s Hill, Shrewsbury, SY1 1JD.
