A successful evening of fizz, canapés and entertainment has raised more than £2,600 for the Mayor of Shrewsbury’s chosen charities.
Around 150 guests attended the Mayor’s Fizz & Canapés event in The Dingle on Friday 4 September, enjoying a beautiful, warm, sunlit evening in the beautiful surroundings of Quarry Park.
Hosted by the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Bernie Bentick, the event was generously supported by sponsors Salop Leisure and Shropshire Homes.
A raffle held during the event was a particular success, raising £1,180 towards the overall fundraising total. One lucky winner took home the top prize of a weekend’s free use of a Geely EX2, generously provided by local car dealer Greenhous. Other very generous prizes included a Magnum of Tanners Champagne, donated by Tanners Shrewsbury Wine Merchants, £60 in food vouchers from Avatar Nepalese Restaurant, a Family Match-day Ticket from Shrewsbury Town Football Club and recycled metal animals from TinZoo.
The event raised £660 for each of the Mayor’s four chosen charities: Little Stars, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, Shropshire Mental Health Support and Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation – a total of £2,640.

The Mayor’s fundraising programme continues with his next event, Tastes of Asia, taking place at Smithy’s Bar, Shrewsbury Town Football Club, on Sunday 18 October from 12pm to 6pm.
The event will celebrate the diverse flavours of Asia, with guests able to sample dishes from Thai, Vietnamese, Nepalese, Indian, Sri Lankan and Turkish cuisines.
Tickets cost £20 per person, including £10 of food and drink tokens, with profits supporting the Mayor’s four chosen charities.
Tickets are available through the Shrewsbury Town Council website, with spaces limited and early booking encouraged.
