Shrewsbury has a vast array of great Asian restaurants many of which you have probably never sampled. Taste of Asia is a brand new event which brings these together on Sunday 20 September from 12pm till 6pm at Smithy's Bar at Shrewsbury Town Football Club.
Hosted by the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Bernie Bentick, Taste of Asia will see a selection of authentic dishes from cuisines across Asia the like of which has never before been seen in a wonderful town. Fancy Thai Tom Yam, a Vietnamese Summer Roll, or a Nepalese curry?
What’s more Taste of Asia will leave more than a good taste on your palate as it is all in a good cause, with profits from the event going to the Mayor's Charity Appeal, and its four chosen charities for 2026/27: Shropshire Mental Health Support, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation and Little Stars.
Councillor Bentick says,
I'm really excited to be hosting this Taste of Asia event and to have the opportunity to bring so many different community groups together in support of my four chosen charities.
Shrewsbury is a wonderfully diverse town, and this event is a great way to celebrate that diversity through food. What makes it particularly exciting is that the dishes being served will offer something a little different from the traditional food options that people may usually find on restaurant menus in the town.”
Tickets are just £20 per person, which includes £10 worth of food and drink tokens. But don’t stop there as you can purchase additional tokens at the event, and try dishes from Thai, Vietnamese, Nepalese, Indian, Sri Lankan and Turkish cuisines.
Anyone with specific dietary requirements is asked to make these known when booking their tickets. Where possible alternatives will be provided. The Mayor’s charity team will be working closely with the participating restaurant caterers to ensure all food is clearly labelled for intolerances.
Taste of Asia promises to be an afternoon of food, culture and community. Bring friends and family to explore the wonderful diversity of Shrewsbury Asian cuisine.
