Young Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Town Council’s youth service, held its second annual Stay Safe social event in the Quarry on Wednesday 25th June, bringing together young people from across the county for a free, fun-filled afternoon focused on mental health and wellbeing.
Building on the success of last year’s event—which centred on drug awareness—the 2025 edition featured a host of engaging activities and opportunities for young people to meet with local support services, youth workers, and organisations. The event was described as “Crucial Crew for teenagers”, providing practical advice, guidance, and support in a relaxed and approachable setting.
Attending the event was the High Sheriff of Shropshire, Jane Trowbridge JP, who took time to speak with key groups including the Shropshire Youth Association (SYA), NHS School Nurses, and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. Her presence was a welcome show of support for the collaborative efforts of the many organisations involved.
A number of interactive and fun activities were on offer, including inflatable axe throwing, basketball and football, provided by Shropshire Festivals, who were on-site preparing for the upcoming Shrewsbury Food Festival on 28th–29th June. These activities were a huge hit with attendees and added a vibrant energy to the day.
Reflecting on the event, Andy Hall, Shrewsbury Town Council’s Youth and Community Manager, said:
It was a fantastic day and great to see so many young people pop down and get involved. The energy, the engagement, and the conversations happening around mental health and wellbeing made this a really special event. We’re proud to build on the success of last year and continue providing these positive opportunities for our community.
The event was made possible through the collaboration and support of a wide range of stakeholders, and Young Shrewsbury would like to extend heartfelt thanks to:
- SYA (Shropshire Youth Association) – for their ongoing support and youth engagement
- NHS School Nurses – offering health advice and support to young people
- Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service – providing vital safety awareness
- West Mercia Police – engaging positively with attendees and supporting the event’s aims
- Shrewsbury Rapid Relief Team – who did a great job keeping everyone fed with delicious burgers
- Shropshire Youth – working to empower and support young people locally
- Shropshire Sexual Health Services – providing vital health information and outreach
- Young Shrewsbury’s dedicated team – for organising and delivering another successful event
- Beth Heath and Clare Wells from Shropshire Festivals – for providing the brilliant fun elements including inflatable axe throwing and sports activities
- Shrewsbury Town Foundation – supporting the health and wellbeing message through sport
- We Are With You – offering support for those facing challenges with mental health and substance use
The Stay Safe event continues to grow in strength and impact, showing the power of community-led youth engagement. With such strong partnerships and enthusiasm from all involved, Young Shrewsbury is already looking ahead to making next year’s event even bigger and better.
