Biography

Alan was born and brought up in Stoke-on-Trent. Long retired from a career in Further and Higher Education—first as a lecturer and later in senior management—he has lived in Shrewsbury for over 40 years, including 25 years in Castlefields.

He is married to Jackie and is the father of Laura and Tom, a grandfather of six, and a great-grandfather of three.

Alan leads a busy life. In addition to his active involvement on both Shrewsbury Town Council and Shropshire Council, he spends time with his family, engages in politics and community activities, enjoys walking his two dogs, does some gardening, and pursues his love of hill walking, rambling, and sport—though now as a spectator rather than a participant.

A lifelong member of the Labour Party, Alan previously served on Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and continues to represent his community through his roles on the two current councils.
