Originally born and educated in Liverpool, Bernie trained as a Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist. He was appointed as a Consultant at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals in 1991, where he started and developed the Shropshire and Mid-Wales Fertility Centre, along with scientific, nursing and administrative colleagues, until he retired in 2020 after 29 years’ service.
Bernie began helping his local community of Meole during the Covid 19 Pandemic in 2020 and was first elected as Meole Councillor in 2021, then re-elected in 2025.
He is an active member of local community groups and has campaigned on health services, the local economy, traffic, public transport and climate issues, also on the Rea Brook and biodiversity. The Health and Wellbeing of Shrewsbury’s and Shropshire’s communities are his passion.
Bernie has a large family including 12 grandchildren who keep him busy at home. His hobbies include walking, cycling, gardening (including an allotment), travelling, 70s and 80s music, chess and golf.
