Shropshire Council's Welfare Reform and Support Team and Customer Services Customer Services (Face to Face) team. 

Both teams link in with Team Shrewsbury as we have close links with other members such as Housing Options and the Revenues and Benefits Services.

Shropshire Council Customer Services (Face to Face) Team 

This team provides face to face support for Shropshire Council services in several customer service points across Shropshire. The local one to Shrewsbury is Shrewsbury Community Hub, based at 1A Castle Gates.  The team there deals with support for customers to access numerous council services, including Blue Badge, parking permits, receiving further information to support Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support applications, people presenting as homeless and people who need emergency support with essential expenses.

Shropshire Council Welfare Reform and Support Team

This team administers two discretionary schemes that can help people with additional support. People who wish to apply can contact the Welfare Reform and Support Team on 0345 678 9078.  Each application is considered on its own merits.

Local Support and Prevention Fund

This team administers two discretionary schemes that can help people with additional support. People who wish to apply can contact the Welfare Reform and Support Team on 0345 678 9078.  Each application is considered on its own merits.

People can apply to this scheme to ask for help with meeting essential expenses such as food, gas, electricity and essential furniture items (this list is not exclusive). Help with food is provided through working with local food banks and help with furniture is provided through working with local furniture schemes. Help with gas and electricity is provided through Paypoint energy voucher awards that people can redeem at Paypoint outlets.

Discretionary Housing Payments

People can apply to this scheme for help to pay shortfalls between the rent that they have to pay and the Housing Benefit or Universal Credit Housing Element that they get towards their rent.

People can also apply for help towards rent in advance and deposits and for other housing-related costs such as removal costs. Please see here for further details about the scheme
