laugh  Well done to EVERYONE involved in this year's (2017) Shrewsbury in Bloom competition!  Yet again the efforts of the community did not disappoint and with the support and expertise of Town Council Officers, Shrewsbury was awarded GOLD in the small city category.  This is an outstanding achievement obtaining 100% marks in Horticulture and 191 points out of 200 overall.  We missed out on the category winner by just 1 point to Newcastle-under-Lyme so very well done to them too.  Other awards achieved here include:

                      Parks & Open Spaces Category:

GOLD for Shrewsbury Castle Grounds

SILVER for Copthorne Park

So what's next?

Well, next year we have been nominated to enter the national Britain in Bloom Competition so keep up the good work, there's everything to play for in 2018!

Background to Shrewsbury In Bloom

Shrewsbury in Bloom is a non-profit organisation which brings together interested groups and individuals to discuss and implement a programme for Shrewsbury's floral enhancement, environmental improvements and community projects.

It is the driving force behind Shrewsbury's annual entry into the Heart of England in Bloom competition which saw the town acheive the ultimate Bloom accolade by being crowned Champion of Champions in 2014.

The Bloom committee is made up of residents and representatives from local businesses, organisations, Shrewsbury Town Council and Shropshire Council. It is headed by the chairman, Councillor Keith Roberts.

Officer support is provided by Shrewsbury Town Council in the form of administrative duties. The council's ground maintenance team also carry out horticultural work on behalf of the committee.

Shrewsbury in Bloom generates its income from actively marketing and promoting floral sponsorship around the town.

The committee is currently looking for new members, anyone interested can contact Gary Farmer on 01743 257651 for more information.
