The Quarry and The Dingle

The Quarry is the main recreational park in Shrewsbury, created in 1719 and encompassing 23 acres.  One of its most famous features is the picturesque Dingle flower garden which has seasonal floral displays all year round.  The River Severn runs through the parkland and other facilities of The Quarry include a children's park, a bandstand and a swimming pool.

The Quarry is used for various events throughout the year, including the well known annual Shrewsbury Flower Show.  It has also been used as a live music venue with the likes of Jools Holland, Will Young and the Sugababes all gracing the stage.locking up

The following sequence is followed when locking up facilities:

  • Lower Quarry Toilets
  • Mardol Quay Gardens
  • St Chad's Churchyard
  • Upper Quarry Toilets
  • Queen Mother's Garden
  • The Dingle
  • The Quarry Depot

 

Opening Times

April - 10am till 6pm

May to August - 10:30am till 7:30pm

September - 10am till 6pm

October to March - 8am till 4pm

Horticultural services - Quality Standards for The Quarry

The Quarry is the main town centre park Quarry Parkcomprising the Quarry and Dingle.  The facility is maintained to the high standards required for such a high profile area.  The total area is approximately 11.73 hectares and is open to the general public on a 24 hours a day daily basis throughout the year including most public holidays.

The Dingle features ornamental season flowerbeds, ornamental grass areas, rockeries, shrub bed areas and various water features and is locked up and unlocked daily.

The Quarry complex comprises amenity grass areas, children's play area, swimming baths, paddling pool, hedges, shrub bed areas, feature ornamental rose beds, seasonal tubs, hanging baskets, memorial seats, plaques and specimen trees.  The cleansing of two public toilet facilities is also included.

The Quarry is used for the Shrewsbury Flower Show, carnivals, fun days and other special events.
