Floral Competitions
Throughout the year, Shrewsbury Town Council holds several competitions to recognise the horticultural expertise of different groups within the town. It also competes in the Heart of England-Shrewsbury In
Bloom competition and this year won Gold level.

This year's competition is well under way and we are calling for all nominations. There are lots of trophies, shields and certificates to be won and the closing date is Monday 9th July.
The 2012 classes for the Town of Flowers Competition are as follows:
COMMERCIAL CATEGORIES
1. Pubs, Restaurants, Cafes, Hotels, B & Bs.
2. Other Commercial/Business Premises.
RESIDENTIAL CATEGORIES (Front gardens only)
(Winners of categories 3 and 4 in 2011 must enter a different category in 2012)
3. Residential Front Garden
4. Container Garden/Hanging Basket(s)
5. Community Garden
ALLOTMENTS AND SCHOOLS
(Nomination by Shrewsbury in Bloom Committee/Allotment Associations only)
6. Young Gardener
7. Allotment Championship Cup
8. Best Half Plot
DISCRETIONARY AWARDS
In addition to the main category winners, the judges will often give out special discretionary awards. These awards allow the judges to recognise individual areas of outstanding merit or innovation.
RULES:
1. The competition is open to all residents and businesses within the Shrewsbury Town Council boundary.
2. All residential entrants are expected to be bonafide amateurs. All gardens/floral displays in the residential category must be the entrants own work.
3. Categories 3 and 4 are for front gardens/front of properties only.
4. Judging takes place between mid July and mid August with no prior notice.
5. The judge's decision is final and no explanation will be offered for the success or failure of a particular entrant.
6. Any entrant found to be breaking the rules will be disqualified from the competition.
