Mayor of Shrewsbury

Councillor Mrs Kath Owen

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Mrs Kath Owen, was born in Harlescott, Shrewsbury.

She attended Harlescott School in Featherbed Lane and at the age of 11 went to the Priory Grammar School.

Her first employment was at the Midlands Electricity Board where she worked on 'punch cards' for 13 years.

The latter 13 years of her working life were spent at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a Ward Clerk.

In 1958 she married Mike.  Mike worked for Rolls Royce, Perkins, Caterpillar for 40 years.  On retiring he joined Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council as a Councillor for the Meole Brace Ward.

In 1968 their son Peter was born.  Peter is now married and lives in Leicester, working for Dairy Crest as a Group Engineering Manager.

Kath's hobbies include line dancing.

Since retiring in 1999 Kath has spent time funding raising for Severn Hospice.

She became a Councillor for Meole Brace in 2002 on the former Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council and is now a Town Councillor for Shrewsbury.  She is a Governor of Priory School.
